Impressionism on the Beach

"The violet shadows in the sand
are like the paintings of Monet,"
you said. "I mean haystacks, the play
of light." I thought, "Just take my hand.

"You can be clever, see things and
still kiss." Once more I hear you say,
"The violet shadows in the sand
are like the paintings of Monet."

"Hold still. The sun does not. We stand
and watch the waves. Our déjeuner
sur l’herbe, this. You’re over dressed. A
dark suited man . But that’s Manet."
"The violet shadows in the sand…"
