Checklist
I remember a waiting room
but not the color of the walls.
I remember a nurse
but not what she looked like.
I remember a gurney
but not how it got there.
I remember a sheet
but not who removed it.
I remember talking
but not what I said.
I remember smoothing her hair
but not when I kissed her.
I remember her blue and white dress
but not if she wore perfume.
I remember touching her hands
holding nothing.
